Isle au Haut Ferry and Taxi Boat Service
Isle au Haut is a gorgeous island located between Penobscot Bay and Jerico Bay in Mid-Coast Maine.
Most of the island is part of Acadia National Park.
This Isle au Haut webpage is presented to you by Old Quarry Ocean Adventures, Inc. Old Quarry is located in Stonington, Maine. We are the gateway to Isle au Haut and the National Park. We have been taking passengers to Isle au Haut for over 15 years. Our passenger vessel can accommodate 19 passengers and is Coast Guard inspected. She has an enclosed cabin if the weather is bad.
If you miss the mailboat/ferry we will take you out to the island at anytime, at your convenience, or if you just want to go out on a very fast boat please give us a call.
We offer daily scheduled trips as well as a taxi service to and from the island. Due to Park regulations we cannot take you to Duck Harbor, but you can hike, bike or kayak there and we can provide you with an awesome mountain bike or a seaworthy kayak. If you are going to walk you will need a good pair of legs. If you are going to kayak you will need a guide or be a proficient paddler.
Old Quarry's most famous and popular Isle au Haut trip is our
"Hike and Bike"
trip. What you get from going on this trip is a great scenic boat ride to Isle au Haut through the Stonington archipelago, biking to and from the trail heads, and hiking Ducktrap Mountain and the Cliff Trail. Everyone absolutely loves this trip. It is low impact, good exercise, fun, and amazingly beautiful. There are wonderful ocean views, high shoreline cliffs, occasional pounding surf, and old growth spruce forests which make it a wonderful destination for the day.
One of our newest trips:
"Hike and Kayak" or just kayak around Isle au Haut for the day. We will drop you off with your boats or ours on our morning trip with the "Hike and Bikers" and pick you up in the afternoon. Have a great day paddling and hiking the park. We will also deliver bikes and kayaks to the Island for your use. This can be a guided or unguided trip. Call well in advance if you want a private guide.
We also offer taxi service to Isle au Haut day or night every day.
The island remains largely uninhabited; it is quiet and quaint with few amenities for the tourist. There is one gift shop (The Sea Urchin Gift Shop), one small grocery store (The Island Store) and a chocolate shop (Black Dinah Chocolatiers). That's pretty much it. There are two park restrooms; one at the Ranger Station near the dock and one at Duck Harbor.

Isle au Haut Island Protocols: Leave no trace principles please. Plan to take ALL your trash with you back to Old Quarry. We will take care of it for you. You must not take anything else back with you from the island like rocks, plants, or animals. Leave everything undisturbed including the local inhabitants. They enjoy their privacy - please respect it. Do not go on private lands. THIS IS A BIG NO-NO. Stay out of their way; don't slow them down. The dock and the parking lot can be crowded during ferry boat time. Be considerate. Please use the Park facilities. Park rangers are there to help you if you need assistance. Seek them out for hiking advice, medical help, or for anything else when you are in the park.
